Six-Week Abortion Ban Bill Heading Back To S.C. Senate For Voting
On Wednesday night, the House passed an amended version of the six-week ban and it will now head back to the state Senate for voting on the changes.
South Carolina lawmakers voted late Wednesday night to ban abortions past six weeks, passing the state’s House of Representatives 82-33 after nearly a day of contentious debate.
The bill was passed by the Senate in February. On Wednesday night, the House passed an amended version of the six-week ban and it will now head back to the state Senate for voting on the changes.
If passed, the bill would be sent to Governor McMaster’s desk for signature. If signed, the ban would take effect immediately.
The bill comes after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year and states are now having to decide their own limits and laws in regards to abortion.
