Audra Grant demos a soda cake live this morning on Carolina A.M when Greg Rowles makes a discovery. Did you know you could make a cake with soda?! Carbonated beverages can be used in place of traditional baking soda and powder. The carbonation helps the cake rise and gives it a lift. You may have seen it online labeled as things such as soda cake even skinny cake. A two-ingredient cake sounds too simple but even Better Homes & Gardens is doing one. You only need a box of cake mix and a can of soda. It can be fun to play with flavor combinations. Audra paired a Betty Crocker yellow cake mix with Dr Pepper and a lemon cake mix with grapefruit-flavored sparking water. Audra brings both to the show today and prepares a demo batch live. Wires get crossed after Greg discovers a technical issue with the mixer.
Soda Cake:
one box of cake mix
one 12 ounce soda (carbonated beverage)
frosting (optional)
