New Process Announced For Placing Family Units In Expedited Removal
The new policy comes as 'Title 42' border restrictions, enacted during the pandemic, are set to expire on Thursday.
The Biden administration launched a new program to track migrant families in the U.S. while they go through an expedited deportation process.
“Family Expedited Removal Management” or “FERM”, is designed as an alternative to detention according to multiple sources familiar with the plan.
Families must stay under home confinement as long as they’re in the U.S.. The head of the household must wear a GPS ankle monitor in place of being detained.
Immigration officials say the families will also have a curfew in one of four cities.
They can still claim asylum and go through the process, if they qualify.
