Fort Hood Base Renamed Fort Cavazos

The Central Texas post is one of nine U.S. Army installations being renamed.

A well known U.S. military base has officially been renamed.

Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, named after a confederate general, has been re-designated. It is now dubbed Fort Cavazos, after a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars who was born in Texas to Mexican-American parents. In 1982, he became the first Hispanic to wear four stars on his uniform.

The Central Texas post is one of nine U.S. Army installations being renamed after the recommendations of a congressional commission set up to remove confederate names from military bases.
