The race is held annually to remember surfside teen, Aiden Mendoza, who was only 17 when he drowned in Surfside Beach in December of 2016.
Aiden was a senior at Socastee High School and had received nearly a full ride to Anderson University at the time of his death. His mother, Katinka Keller-Mendoza, established a non-profit foundation to honor her son’s death in 2017.
