Tou Thao Convicted of Aiding and Abetting Manslaughter
Thao is already serving a three-and-a-half year sentence for violating Floyd's civil rights.
This morning a judge found former Minneapolis police officer Tou Thao guilty of an additional charge in connection to the killing of George Floyd in 2020. Thao kept bystanders back while two fellow officers held down Floyd while fellow ex-officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck. The new conviction is for aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. Thao is already serving a three-and-a-half year sentence for violating Floyd’s civil rights after a separate case last year. His sentencing hearing for the extra conviction is scheduled for August.
