Train Derails in Wisconsin, Sending Two Cars into the Mississippi River

Train employees from Burlington Northern Santa Fe are taking steps to secure and prevent oil and fuel from flowing downstream.

Two locomotives and 20 train cars derailed in De Soto Wisconsin yesterday. Four workers were injured in the derailment, but officials say there was never any danger to the public. Two of the train cars went off into the Mississippi River, but it does not appear that hazardous materials were released. U.S. Representative Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin, who sits on the transportation committee says he has staff who will be at the scene to help out. A nearby sheriff’s office says a downed bridge has made it hard for first responders in nearby Iowa assist.
