McCarthy Announces Bill To Push GOP’s Debt Ceiling Plan

The GOP's plan suggests to raise the debt limit and decrease unspecified domestic, non-defense spending.

On Monday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy laid out a review of what he hopes the House Republicans can pass in the upcoming weeks to raise the debt ceiling.

McCarthy says the plan is for the House to vote on the bill to lift the debt ceiling into the next year while promising to save taxpayers money, make the U.S. less dependent on China, curb inflation, and do so without touching social security and Medicare.

The GOP’s plan suggests to raise the debt limit and decrease unspecified domestic, non-defense spending. Democrats argue the debt limit should be lifted without any conditions attached.

McCarthy’s plan passed in the House last month, but is not expected to pass in the Senate.
