Florida Governor Proposes To Place State Prison Near Disney

According to Ron DeSantis, the Republican-controlled state legislature will advance a bill aimed at allowing a state takeover of Disney-controlled land.

On Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced a possible move in attempt to punish Disney for criticizing him.

According to DeSantis, the Republican-controlled state legislature will advance a bill aimed at allowing a state takeover of Disney-controlled land.

Earlier this year, DeSantis tried to take over the Reedy Creek Improvement District. It’s a special tax district that gives Disney control over the land around its Disney World Resort in Central Florida.

DeSantis assigned his own representatives to that board to take it over but, before they could take office, the outgoing board quietly stripped the district of its powers and gave them directly to Disney.

The new bill seeks to nullify that action. DeSantis has claimed the action was improper. Disney says it’s legal since it was agreed to in two meetings that were advertised to the public and in accordance with Florida law.

DeSantis announced that the land could be used for a prison or even a new amusement park across from Disney.
