David’s Bridal Files For Bankruptcy

A shift to more casual style weddings have hurt the company's elaborate dress sales as they have become less appealing to some bride's.

The largest bridal retailer in the U.S. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday.

David’s Bridal remains below pre-pandemic levels after being hurt by various factors including inflation, competition from online retailers, and secondhand retailers.

A shift to more casual style weddings have also hurt the company’s elaborate dress sales as they have become less appealing to some bride’s.

The store said in a bankruptcy filing, that the shifting consumer preferences have significantly intensified the company’s financial status.

David’s Bridal will keep its nearly 300 stores and website operating and continue to fulfill orders as it searches for a buyer. However, if a buyer is not found, it could have to close all stores and liquidate.
