Four People Arrested In Connection To Rooster Fighting Ring

Deputies discovered there would be a cockfight held on Sunday through an investigation. Upon arrival, several people attempted to flee.

Four people have been arrested after a search warrant was conducted and revealed a rooster fighting ring.

Many recent complaints regarding the illegal sale of narcotics and possible fighting of roosters in the area of Griggs Circle and Grants Mill Road in Marlboro County, led to the search warrant.

Deputies discovered there would be a cockfight held on Sunday through an investigation. Upon arrival, several people attempted to flee.

13 dead mutilated roosters and 20 viable roosters were discovered. The roosters that died are being sent for a necropsy to confirm the cause of death.

Handguns, marijuana, and illicit drug paraphernalia, were also found on the property.

Artemus Butler, David Williams, Jimmie Clark, and Kenneth Bartlett, have all been arrested under the S.C. statute of animal fighting and baiting.

More arrests are expected to be made in connection to the discovery.
