Biden Signs Bill To Terminate National COVID Emergency
The bill is separate from the termination of the public health emergency that will take effect on May 11th.
On Monday, President Biden signed a bill to end the National Emergency for COVID-19.
The legislation passed in the Senate last month in a bipartisan 68 to 23 vote. It progressed through the House earlier in the year with 11 Democrats crossing party lines to vote for the joint resolution.
A White House official announced the bill does not impact the administration’s ability to ‘wind-down authorities in an orderly way’.
The bill is separate from the termination of the public health emergency that will take effect on May 11th.
The official shared that since Congress moved to undo the National Emergency earlier than expected, they have been working with agencies to address the impacts of ending the public health emergency early as well.
The White House appeared to be strongly opposed to the bill but said President Biden will sign it if it comes to his desk.
Both emergencies were intended to end on May 11th.
