Robeson County Cosmetology Students ‘Give Back’ with Pampering Outreach
Students gave the ultimate spa treatment to 12 young ladies in the Crossroad Project Outreach program with Communities in Schools.
Just as cosmetology students know the importance of giving back, a group of volunteer “finishers” help complete knitting projects started by late loved ones. The Loose Ends project seeks out volunteers around the world to continue knitting projects left behind by loved ones. It has brought peace of mind to folks like Annie whose mom was trying to finish sweaters for her grand-daughters when she was diagnosed with lymphoma. The group is based in Maine but you can connect online.
Each week we ask you to share an act of kindness with us that you’ve either participated in or witnessed. Vaughn Hastings shaved his head for the 17th straight year during the “St. Baldrick’s” event that is held every year near St Patty’s day. It raises money for childhood cancer research he’s helped raise $78k in donations since starting this endeavor. Vaughn is the top fundraiser and has the t-shirt to show for it. Speaking of the shirt, he sees it as a good opportunity to promote the cause in photos with celebrities and wears it to raise awareness. Additionally, in between his once-a-year trimming, Hastings also donates blood and platelets and says that equals about 80 gallons between the two.
