We’ve partnered with the Maguire Law Firm to bring you Carolina Kindness stories each Wednesday.  Share your act of kindness with us:  carolinakindness@wfxb.com  or agrant@wfxb.com.
Cosmetology students at Robeson Community College had a chance to give back today. Students gave the ultimate spa treatment to 12 young ladies in the Crossroad Project Outreach program with Communities in Schools. These young women are in high school, and organizers say it was a great way to prepare them for the future because not only is looking your best important, but feeling your best is vital to one’s success. They just wanted to show some love and the importance of self-care.  That included manicures, pedicures, and facials. The RCC Cosmetology program director said it’s important to teach giving back. as it opens your hand back to receiving.   Afterwards they enjoyed a BBQ plate dinner courtesy of the culinary arts department and then and then headed to UNC Pembroke for a musical.

Just as cosmetology students know the importance of giving back, a group of volunteer “finishers” help complete knitting projects started by late loved ones.  The Loose Ends project seeks out volunteers around the world to continue knitting projects left behind by loved ones.  It has brought peace of mind to folks like Annie whose mom was trying to finish sweaters for her grand-daughters when she was diagnosed with lymphoma.   The group is based in Maine but you can connect online.

Each week we ask you to share an act of kindness with us that you’ve either participated in or witnessed.  Vaughn Hastings shaved his head for the 17th straight year during the “St. Baldrick’s” event that is held every year near St Patty’s day.  It raises money for childhood cancer research he’s helped raise $78k in donations since starting this endeavor.  Vaughn is the top fundraiser and has the t-shirt to show for it.  Speaking of the shirt,  he sees it as a good opportunity to promote the cause in photos with celebrities and wears it to raise awareness.  Additionally, in between his once-a-year trimming, Hastings also donates blood and platelets and says that equals about 80 gallons between the two.
