Taiwan’s President’s Visit To The U.S. Prompts Backlash From China
The leader said Taiwan cannot be isolated and that they do not take friendship for granted.
Taiwan’s president’s visit to the United States is expected to stir up China’s disapproval amidst the country’s recent increasing tensions.
Tsai Ing-wen said, “We are stronger when we stand together in solidarity with fellow democracies”. The leader also said Taiwan cannot be isolated and that they do not take friendship for granted.
The visit comes as tensions are high between the U.S. and China and has already prompted condemnation from Beijing, which claims Democratic Taiwan as its territory despite never having controlled it.
A Chinese representative said Tsai’s visit is expected to lead to a ‘serious confrontation’ in the United States and China’s relationship and could cause a ‘severe impact’ on their ties.
