Stephen Smith’s Death Now Investigated As A Homicide
Smith's case was recently re-opened after new evidence was discovered during the investigation of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh's double murder.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is now investigating the death of Stephen Smith as a homicide.
The 19-year-old was found dead on Sandy Run Road in Hampton County back in 2015. The original autopsy confirmed the death as a possible hit-and-run but some authorities questioned the ruling.
Smith’s case was recently re-opened after new evidence was discovered during the investigation of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh’s double murder, in which Alex Murdaugh was convicted for.
The Murdaugh name came up frequently in Smith’s death investigation as rumors reported that Smith and Buster Murdaugh were romantically involved.
SLED released a statement saying they do not need an independent autopsy to investigate Smith’s death as a homicide.
