Tuesday night, deputies from the Robeson and Dillon County Sheriff’s Offices encountered a standoff.

Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said a suspect fired shots at officials and retreated into a house on Hayestown Road near Lake View where they continued shooting.

The incident is connected to a murder investigation that was opened Tuesday afternoon after Robeson County deputies and homicide investigators were called to the 90th block of Affinity Road near Fairmont, which is about 10 miles East of where the shooting took place.
