Ohio Sues Norfolk Southern Over Train Derailment

It has been proven that the derailment could have been completely avoided and Norfolk has been accused of putting profits for their company above the health and safety of the cities and communities they operate in.

Ohio has filed a lawsuit against Norfolk Southern Railway in regards to the toxic chemical train derailment in East Palestine last month.

Attorney General Dave Yost outlined a 58-count complaint and stated that Norfolk violated a number of state and federal laws. Yost also accused the company of violating the state’s “Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act”.

It has been proven that the derailment could have been completely avoided and Yost said that Norfolk could be putting profits for their company above the health and safety of the cities and communities they operate in.

The attorney general pointed out the derailment caused over one million gallons of hazardous chemicals to be released which endangered both the health of area residents and Ohio’s natural resources.

The rail company said it is still making progress in cleaning the derailment scene, providing funds to affected residents and businesses, and investing in the community.

Yost said the lawsuit is intended to assure that Norfolk keeps it’s promises.
