Biden Announced New Executive Order On Background Checks
The executive order instructs the attorney general to push the U.S. as close to universal background checks as possible without additional legislation.
On Tuesday, President Biden announced an executive order in Monterey Park, California, where a mass shooting recently occurred.
The executive order instructs the attorney general to push the U.S. as close to universal background checks as possible without additional legislation.
The new order aims to increase the number of background checks conducted before fire-arm sales. Universal background checks are viewed as significant to closing legal loopholes that allow prohibited purchases.
The executive order attempts to crack down on gun sellers who break the law. It also calls to reduce theft or loss of firearms between dealers as well as mandate better reporting of ballistics data so law enforcement can match shell casings to the guns from which they were fired.
Biden’s executive order calls on the Federal Trade Commission to issue a report on how gun manufacturers target civilians, specifically minors.
