A shooting at a Florence County nightclub resulted in the death of one person early Saturday morning.

The shooting occurred at Lava Lounge on West Sumter Street. The gunfire came about amid an altercation at the club.

The person who was shot was taken to a hospital where they later died.

45-year-old Javon Smith of Darlington, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Smith is currently being held in the Florence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
