The 'Restricting the Emergence of Security Threats that Risk Information and Communications Technology (RESTRICT) Act' does not target any platform in general. However, it aims to give the U.S. government new powers.
A handful of senators presented a bipartisan bill that would expand President Biden’s legal authority over social media platforms in America.
The ‘Restricting the Emergence of Security Threats that Risk Information and Communications Technology (RESTRICT) Act’ does not target any platform in general. However, it aims to give the U.S. government new powers.
A part of the new bill would include giving the government the power to ban foreign-linked producers of electronics or software that the commerce department considers a National security risk.
For example the short video app of TikTok, could be collectively banned from America due to the fear of it giving China significant U.S. data and information, if the bill is passed.
