Over 700 Thousand SUVs Recalled Due To Folding Key Issue

The recall has been put into effect due to reports of the vehicle cutting off accidentally while in drive.

A recall has been made on over 700 thousand Nissan Rogue and Rogue Sport compact SUVs.

The recall has been put into effect due to reports of the vehicle cutting off accidentally while in drive.

Rogue models from 2016 to 2022 and Rogue Sports from 2017 to 2022, have jack-knife-style keys where the metal blade of the key flips out from within a plastic key fob.

The internal joint in the key can weaken over time which allows the key to accidentally fold while in use. If this happens while the key is in the ignition, the vehicle can then turn off if the key is bumped or touched.

The recall includes the base Rogue-S and smaller Rogue Sport-S models.

Nissan has not yet worked out a solution to the problem, but once a solution is available, it will be provided by Nissan dealers free of charge.

Until then, owners of the vehicles included in the recall are advised not to attach anything to the keys that could pull it down and also urged to insert the key into the ignition in a direction that only allows the key to fold upward, not down.

No deaths or injuries have been reported due to this issue yet.
