President Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine.

This is the first time the president visited Kyiv since the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine began almost a year ago. This was a secret occasion and it took place while air raid sirens were ringing out as Biden walked along side Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky around St. Michael’s Cathedral.

The visit comes amid Russia’s preparation for an expected spring offensive and Ukraine hopes to soon retake territory.

The U.S. president announced $500 million in new aid and said the package would include additional military equipment such as artillery ammunition, more javelins and Howitzers. President Biden also said new sanctions would be imposed on Moscow soon.

The U.S. along with other Western Nations have been granting tanks and ammunition to Ukraine with hopes of changing the trajectory of the on-going war.
