Tesla Recalls Thousands Of U.S. Vehicles With FSD System
The FSD Beta system has been known to act unsafe while in a turn-only lane, entering a four-way stop, or proceeding into an intersection during a yellow signal without caution.
Tesla is recalling all 363,000 U.S. vehicles with its “full self driving” driver assistance software.
The software is capable of navigating local roads with steering, braking, and acceleration, but requires a human driver prepared to take control at any given time as the system could make errors.
The FSD Beta system has been known to act unsafe while in a turn-only lane, entering a four-way stop, or proceeding into an intersection during a yellow signal without caution.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the feature has led to an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety based on insufficient compliance with traffic safety laws. They also said manufacturers must issue a recall to make repairs including a software update that will adjust the safety risks.
Tesla could attempt to fix the feature for an estimated 15 thousand dollars.
CEO Elon Musk, has not yet commented on the nature of the problem but tweeted that the word “recall” for a software update is “just flat wrong.”
