Five Former Officers Plead Not Guilty To Death Of Tyre Nichols

On January 10th, Tyre Nichols was beaten to death by police after a traffic stop.

The five former Memphis Police Department officers charged for the death of a 29-year-old appeared in court on Friday.

On January 10th, Tyre Nichols was beaten to death by police after a traffic stop. Video footage was publicly released unveiling the former police officers applying excessive force upon the victim.

Nichols was transported to a hospital where he later died due to injuries suffered during the attack.

Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Justin Smith, Emmitt Martin III, and Desmond Mills Jr., each faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct, and official oppression.

All suspects pleaded not guilty at their arraignment on Friday.

Preston Hemphill was also an officer who was fired in connection to Nichols’ death for violating several departmental policies, including personal conduct and truthfulness.
