Lula de Silva was sworn in as Brazil’s president after defeating former leader Jair Bolsonaro. Brazilian officials condemned Bolsonaro supporters saying those responsible for the actions will be found and punished. At least 400 arrests have been made so far.
Bolsonaro criticized his supporters’ choice of reaction and said his office would cooperate with the transition of power.
Sunday’s events drew immediate comparison to the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol during the changing of power between former president Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.
