Swearing In Of The 118th Congress
82 new members of the House are being sworn in.
Tuesday, will mark a historic day in Washington D.C..
The U.S. House and Senate will swear in the 118th Congress. 82 new members of the House are being sworn in including George Santos who recently received backlash for revealing lies on his resume.
149 of the members are women expanding female representation by two members of the record set by the 117th Congress and will have the longest serving woman in congressional history. 58 women of color are also breaking a record with the most represented.
The new congress also will consist of the House’s first Gen-Z lawmaker.
Republicans will control the House, but it remains unclear if their leader, Kevin McCarthy will gain the 218 votes needed to become speaker.
