Man Convicted For Leading Plot To Kidnap Whitmer Sentenced

Adam Fox was convicted in August on charges of "kidnapping conspiracy" as well as "conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction".

The man convicted of plotting to kidnap Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, has been sentenced.

Adam Fox is accused of being the ringleader of the plot to kidnap the Democratic governor from her home in 2020. Fox was convicted in August on charges of “kidnapping conspiracy” as well as “conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction”.

Prosecutors requested Fox’s punishment to be a life in prison sentence which is the federal guidelines maximum sentence for his convictions. It was argued that by punishing Fox with the maximum sentence, it would set an example to warn others so that public officials do not have to worry about their safety.

Defense attorneys argued that the actions alleged, versus what Fox actually accomplished, does not deserve the maximum sentence.

A judge stated that a sentence of life in prison was not necessary.

Fox has now been sentenced to 16 years in prison.
