“Respect For Marriage Act” Signed As Official Law
President Biden said it would give peace of mind to LGBTQI + and interracial couples.
Today, President Biden will be signing the ‘Respect for Marriage Act’ into law.
Many Democratic and Republican lawmakers along with Vice President Kamala Harris and others will gather on the South Lawn of The White House for a ceremony to make the act an official federal law.
In a statement after the bill passed in the House, President Biden said it would give peace of mind to LGBTQI + and interracial couples.
The measure replaces provisions that legally defines marriage only between a man and a woman with those that acknowledge any marriage between two individuals that is valid under state law.
The bill will require states to recognize same-sex marriages that were legalized in other states as well.
