LOCAL WOMAN HOSTS OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD PACKING PARTIES – by Annelyn Russ

As Christmas grows near it can be easy to forget, not everybody experiences the holiday cheer. The organization of Operation Christmas Child has a mission to share the festivities with children around the world. One local woman collects toys and necessities for O.C.C all year round and hosts packing parties.
Operation Christmas Child is an organization that collects shoe box gifts filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items, then delivers them to children in need around the world to demonstrate God’s love.
Molly Tisdale has been packing shoeboxes for 20 years. It is something that she would do with her mom, who loved devoting time to the shoebox ministry. After her mother passed away, she decided to host packing parties to honor her memory. The packing parties consist of food, fun, and filling. She provides food, games, a hay ride, and most of all, the items that are needed to fill the boxes.
She sets out tables and lays all the items she has collected over the year and everyone who attends the party packs the items into the boxes and prepares them to be transported to processing centers where they are inspected before being sent out. Over 150 boxes were packed at this past packing party she hosted.
Tisdale said that she packs boxes so “children all over the world would have a tangible gift that demonstrates God’s love.” She also shared that she loves sharing this project with others and hopes that it spreads the love of the ministry to a “younger generation who grows up packing shoeboxes and sharing the love of Jesus with others.”
