World Cup Chief Announced Improvements Have To Happen

An estimated 400 to 500 migrant workers died working on projects connected to Qatar's World Cup.

The World Cup Chief, Hassan Al-Thawadi, announced improvements have to be made after an estimated 400 to 500 migrant workers died working on projects connected to Qatar’s World Cup.

FIFA has consistently reiterated it is fully committed to protecting the rights of workers on projects such as constructing stadiums. Thawadi was responsible for ensuring infrastructure and development projects that would be completed by this year’s games.

He said that though they do not have an exact death toll count, one death is too many, and changes need to be made. He also shared that the health and safety standards approve every year.

Thawadi announced that this issue applies to all trade unions, but that the World Cup site highlighted the issues and will be used as motivation to not only improve conditions, but enforce the improved terms as well.
