Apple To Adjust “Hey Siri” Feature
"Siri" is currently being trained to pick up on commands without needing the first word of the phrase "Hey Siri"
Apple has announced a change coming to a feature consumers use daily.
The company said that its voice assistant “Siri” is currently being trained to pick up on commands without needing the first word of the phrase “Hey Siri.” The trigger phrase is used to launch Siri on products including the iPhone, iPad, Home Pod, and Apple Watch.
Dropping the “Hey” part of the phrase and adjusting the feature to respond to just “Siri” may seem like a minor change but experts say it could signal broader changes to come.
Research Director at ABI Research, Lian Su, shared that two trigger words allows the system to more accurately recognize requests, but the move to one word would depend on a more advanced AI system.
The move would allow Apple to catch up to Amazon’s “Alexa” that doesn’t require a first word to awaken the system.
