South Korea quickly gathered nearly 80 fighter jets after detecting a vast amount of North Korean warplanes.

South Korean military said it noticed about 180 North Korean military aircraft during a four-hour period. The sighting came just a day after Pyongyang is believed to have conducted a failed test of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

Tensions between the two countries escalated Monday when the U.S. and South Korea began military drills involving hundreds of aircrafts and thousands of service members.

North Korea claimed that the allies were conducting threatening actions and in response, the country launched 23 missiles from its east and west coasts into waters on either side of the peninsula, provoking South Korea to respond with three surface-to-air missiles.

South Korea announced the continuance of the drills while a North Korean official said that is a “very dangerous and false choice.”
