Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Plan Is Sending Refund Checks

Refund checks are being sent out to students who paid on their loans during the pandemic pause.

Although the Biden Administration’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program has been halted due to legal challenges, refund checks are currently being sent out to some students.

The checks are being sent to borrowers who started to pay off their student loans after the pandemic pause was put in place during March 2020. Despite the pandemic pause, nearly 8.8 million people made at least one payment between March 2020 and December 2021.

Part of the student loan forgiveness plan states that if a student voluntarily made payments during the pause, and the loan balance is below the amount of debt relief they would receive after applying for the forgiveness plan, the student will automatically be refunded the amount paid during the payment pause from March 2020 through December 31st, 2022.
