Twitter Discovered China-Based Accounts Intended To Manipulate

Twitter removed the accounts due to violation of the company's rules against platform manipulation and spam.

Twitter has interrupted three China-based operations that were secretly attempting to influence American politics.

The operations reached nearly 2 thousand user accounts and tweeted remarks about election rigging claims of the 2020 presidential election. 22 user accounts tweeted more than 250,000 times.

Twitter discovered many of the networks were portrayed to be located in the U.S. but technical signals indicated that they were based in China.

The company also discovered accounts that were based in Iran but claimed to be from the U.S..

Twitter said that it was not blaming the activity on any specific governments.

The operations are compared to the Russia-based operations that helped escalate tension during the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.
