305 Dogs Rescued From SC’s Largest Dogfighting Ring

Over the weekend, more than 20 people were arrested in South Carolina, all in regards to the same incident. On Saturday, officers interrupted a scheduled dogfighting match in Richland County. Over 305 dogs were rescued and 275 of them are believed to be associated with dogfighting. The Humane Society of the U.S and Bark Nation are assisting the operation with the care taking of the animals. This incident is considered a felony due to The Animal Welfare Act. The punishment can be up to 5 years in federal prison. Officers also seized $40 thousand in cash, 30 firearms, and multiple pieces of evidence. Over 20 people are facing charges relating to animal cruelty and dogfighting.
