Some Are Calling For An All Female Committee To Discuss New SC Abortion Bill

The discussion on how to legislate abortion in South Carolina continues. The Senate bill, H. 5399 prohibits abortion after nearly 6 weeks. It includes an exception for up to 12 weeks in rape or incest incidents that resulted in pregnancy. The bill also makes exceptions if a fatal diagnosis is presented for the fetus and if the mother is put at risk. The law is being sent to the South Carolina House. Some are calling for an all female committee to oversee the discussion. Representative Krystle Matthews and John King, have expressed their opinion that male legislators should not be making decisions about women’s bodies the house will vote on the bill next Tuesday.
