NASA’s Dart Mission Will Test A Theory

NASA’s Dart Mission is curious to find out how hard it would be to stop an asteroid from crashing into Earth. The test will be carried out on a target asteroid called Dimorphos. It will occur nearly 7 million miles away. It is just a test, the rock is not currently on a path to hit Earth and the agency confirmed the test will not accidentally send it toward Earth. The idea is to crash the spacecraft into the asteroid. It hopes to prove the hypothesis that to change the path of the rock, it’s velocity would need to be altered by just a small amount if executed by a far enough distance in advance. NASA is promising images from the dart as it crashes into the asteroid.
