Ebola Outbreak in Uganda
An Ebola outbreak has been declared in Uganda. Health authorities confirmed a case of the rare Sudan strain. A 24-year-old man showed symptoms and later died. The patient was confirmed to have a high fever, abdominal pains, and vomiting blood. Initially he was treated for Malaria. Currently, there are 8 suspected cases receiving care in a health facility in the country. A vaccine produced by Johnson and Johnson may be effective, however it has yet to be specifically tested against the Sudan strain. The world health organization’s Africa office stated that they are helping Uganda’s health authorities with their investigation and deploying staff to the affected area.
