Permanent Closure of Waccatee Zoo
PETA sued the Waccatee Zoo causing a permanent closure.
PETA sued the Waccatee Zoo causing a permanent closure. In April, PETA accused the zoo of violating The Endangered Species Act along with other violations. PETA stated the animals were deprived of appropriate veterinary care and other necessities. The Waccatee Zoo’s USDA license expired Monday and was not renewed. The ongoing expense of the litigation and other considerations led to the decision of closing the zoo as the only feasible option. The location where the Waccatee Zoo sign once stood now reads Waccamaw River Tours which is not affiliated with the roadside zoo.
