Spreading Laughs in the Car Line, Going the Distance for Students and More in Our Carolina Kindness Stories!
We’ve partnered with the Maguire Law Firm to bring you Carolina Kindness stories each Wednesday.
Each week at this time we pause to bring you good from around the world to our backyards. We’ve partnered with the Maguire Law Firm to bring you Carolina Kindness.
We begin today with an update from a Carolina Kindness hero. Florence County Sheriffs Deputy Heath Gregg is a school resource officer at West Florence High School, who helped start T.A.C.T…teens and cops working together. It’s a mentor program started years ago made up of volunteers and has been expanding. The JV football coach for West, Coach Dixon is particiating by leading an ethics and character program with his players. Students part of the program get together for fellowship over basketball. They are have a big game coming up where the Timmonsville Department is will give them some competition. That’s this Saturday. In talking with Deputy Gregg, so much good has come out of this program, such as students graduating and coming back to serve as mentors.
Speaking of schools…parents of a Texas elementary school decided to help parents start and end the day with a good laugh in the car line. They created these celebrity-inspired signs to keep things moving along and with a side of humor. The signs feature MC Hammer, Ryan Gosling, even a FRIENDS episode reference and the band N*SYNC. The local PTA said the mission was to make parents smile…because let’s be real, most of the kids have no idea who these celebrities are from their parent’s generation.
Another teacher decided to put his own fun spin on teaching his students. Before kids arrived for the their first day, he made this video to set the tone…and to welcome the kiddos to class. The video outlines all they can anticipate learning this year. Parents went crazy over it, saying it just made the difference and helped shake off the nerves for both them and their children.
