Former Soviet Union Leader Mikhail Gorbachev has died. Gorbachev passed away after a lengthy illness. He led the union from 1985 until 1991. Gorbachev is credited for introducing key political and economic reforms to the USSR and helping to end the Cold War. In a statement, Russian President Putin expressed his condolences and is expected to send a message to Gorbachev’s family and friends today. Other world leaders also paid tribute to Gorbachev including President Biden.
