Japanese Town Lifts Evacuation Order 11 Years After Nuclear Power Plant Disaster

Yesterday, the evacuation order was lifted over a decade after the nuclear disaster that disabled the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant ‘. Former residents are now able to come back to the area which was previously deemed off-limits. On March 11, 2011 a 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck off of Japan’s coast which triggered a Tsunami that caused a nuclear meltdown at the power plant and a major release of radioactive material marking the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl in 1986.
