Woman Dies After Being Impaled by Beach Umbrella in Horry County

A Garden City woman was killed yesterday afternoon after being impaled by a beach umbrella. According to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard, 63 year old Tammy Perreault was pronounced dead around 1:30 p.m. in an emergency room from chest trauma after a beach umbrella caught wind while she was walking by. Willard said it was not Perreault’s umbrella. Just over 5,500 beach umbrella injuries were recorded to the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System between 2000 and 2019. About 16.6% of those included injuries to internal organs.
