Attorneys Seek Delay in Lawsuit Filed Against Alex Murdaugh

Attorneys representing former attorney Alex Murdaugh have asked a Hampton County judge to delay a lawsuit by the family of a teen killed in a boating crash. The attorneys want the judge to continue the case and temporarily block discovery of evidence in the lawsuit until after Murdaugh stands trial for the murders of his wife Maggie and son Paul to protect his right to a fair trial and due process of law. The family of Mallory Beach filed the suit against Murdaugh in February alleging that Beach died in a boating crash and that Paul was driving the boat owned by his parents when he was under the influence and crashed into a bridge at Archer’s Creek. The lawsuit alleges that Murdaugh is liable for ‘negligent entrustment and negligent supervision related to Paul Murdaugh’s operating of the boat while under the influence.’
