President Biden to Sign Executive Order on Abortion Access

President Biden is expected to sign an executive order today as part of his administration’s efforts to help ensure access to abortion. The president will sign the order during the inaugural meeting of the administration’s Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access, which is comprised of representatives from multiple departments across the federal government. Under the order, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra will consider ‘all appropriate actions to ensure health care providers comply with federal non-discrimination laws so that women receive medically necessary care without delay’. Health and Human Services will also consider actions guaranteeing women traveling across state lines seeking abortions have access to health care services including through Medicaid.
