House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Begins Trip to Asia With Stop in Singapore

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi kicked off her trip to Asia alongside several other Congress members today. Pelosi made a stop in Singapore and met with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. During the meeting they discussed U.S. Singapore cooperation on a number of issues including the climate crisis and economic development. Pelosi is also scheduled to attend a cocktail reception held by the American Chamber of Commerce in the city later today. Before arriving in the Indo-Pacific, Pelosi’s delegation stopped by Hawaii and they also plan to visit Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. According to Taiwanese officials, while on the trip, Pelosi is expected to visit Taiwan but no plans have been finalized. The trip would mark the first time in 25 years a U.S. House Speaker came to the city.
