The Oak Fire in California Continues to Grow Becoming Biggest in State in 2022

The Oak Fire in California continues to grow. The blaze has engulfed over 18,000 acres and is California’s largest wildfire of the year. Yesterday, the fire destroyed 21 homes and 34 other buildings and is about 16% contained. It’s also threatening over 2,400 homes in nearby areas. The fire is being fueled by ‘extreme drought’, a ‘high tree mortality and a bark beetle infestation.’ Smoke from the fire can be seen from the San Francisco Bay area and Nevada. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a State of Emergency on Saturday as thousands of people remain in the fire’s path and evacuations have been ordered for over 6,000 people.
