Alert Issued After Japan’s Sakurajima Volcano Erupts

Japan’s Sakurajima volcano located in the island of Kyushu erupted yesterday. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the volcano erupted around 8:05 p.m. at a Level 5 alert which is the highest level alert was issued calling for people to evacuate. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties and Japan’s nuclear regulators said no irregularities were detected at a nearby nuclear plant. According to NASA, Sakurajima is one of the country’s most active volcanoes and previously erupted in January.
