California Wildfire Threatens Yosemite National Park
Crews in California are battling a growing wildfire near Yosemite National Park. The Washburn Fire has grown to nearly 500 acres near the lower portion of Mariposa Grove, which includes more than 500 giant sequoias. Firefighters are working from the ground and air to battle the blaze and park officials say the grove will remain closed until further notice. Park officials have also urged people to evacuate Yosemite’s Wawona campground and nearby communities. Yosemite is one of the most visited National Parks in the world and over 3.3 million people visited it last year.
