Former NFL Wide Receiver Demaryius Thomas Had CTE at Time of Death

More details surrounding former NFL Wide Receiver Demaryius Thomas’ death in December have been announced. Thomas’ parents say the former Denver Bronco was suffering from Stage 2 Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy at the time of his death. The diagnosis came after an examination of his brain after his death. His family says their son died of a cardiac arrest caused by a seizure disorder that led to his retirement from the NFL in June 2021. CTE occurs when the brain starts to degenerate likely due to repeated head trauma according to the Mayo Clinic. Currently diagnosis is only possible through autopsy.
